Super site carrying articles on everything from overcoming writer's block to marketing your work once you have succeeded. I liked the Fiction Writer's Character Chart which helps you think through every detail of your characters and really get to know them. Also links to lots of genre sites such as children's writing, crime, romance and more.
Absolute Write
This site has evolved from a site for screen writers so there is lots to interest writers of that genre, but it now includes playwriting, novels, non-fiction, comic book writing, greetings cards, poetry, freelance, jobs and even a Beware Board where readers can submit warnings or tales of woe about unscrupulous editors, publishers, agents, producers etc. Also good articles, interviews, links, chat and news.
Internet Writing Workshop
Help and support for writers of all genres. Members must be prepared to take an active part in the workshops by critiquing other members work. Also a forum for "seeking support from other writers, sharing tricks of the trade, asking questions and announcing successes!"
The Zuzu Petals Literary Resource
Large literary resource covering all types of writing, poetry and some visual arts. Lots of arts news articles, bookstore, magazine and hundreds of links to mainly USA writing sites. Definitely worth dipping into.
The Romance Reader
Good site for lovers of romantic fiction carrying almost 2,000 reviews. They are also building their top 100 romance novels plus features, author interviews, links.
Andrea Semple
If you love books or you want to write your own you will enjoy visiting Andrea Semple's web site. With her debut novel receiving rave reviews, she has put together a web site full of advice on becoming a published author, interviews with various other novelists, recommended reading lists and you can sign up for her newsletter too.
National Union of Journalists
