GEFFRYE MUSEUM
Lovely museum with lots to interest lovers of interior design. It is the only museum in the United Kingdom to specialise in the furniture and domestic interiors of the urban middle classes. Its displays span from 1600 to the present day, forming a sequence of period rooms which capture the essence of English interior style. The displays lead the visitor on a walk through time, from the 17th century with oak furniture and panelling, past the refined splendour of the Georgian period and the high style of the Victorians, to 20th-century modernity, seen in a 1930s flat, a mid-century room in 'contemporary style' plus a late 20th-century living space in a converted warehouse. Also a wonderfully aromatic walled herb garden. Many special exhibitions and craft courses held throughout the year. A treasure.
